Earlier this month we travelled the 5200 miles to attend one of the world’s largest and most notable hacker conventions, DEF CON. DEF CON is a hacking and security conference that takes place every year in Las Vegas. Unlike industry and vendor-oriented events, DEF CON has a more community-focused feel, making it unique among security conferences.

DEF CON 31 hosted a wide variety of events and activities, both educational and recreational. Spread across three Las Vegas hotels and a conference centre, there really was something to interest all of us. From talks and presentations on the latest and greatest exploits and vulnerabilities, to cutting-edge research in fields like artificial intelligence. There were also numerous workshops and training sessions for DEF CON attendees to learn new skills and techniques from some of the greatest minds in the industry.

Even coming away from DEF CON without knowledge that can be immediately applied to our day-to-day jobs as penetration testers, we certainly left inspired and excited to be working in such a fast-paced and ever-changing industry. Listening to talks from speakers successfully battling through month-long blockers when developing their research could re-ignite anyone’s passion.

And with such a distance covered, we had to take the unique opportunity to add our very own Cyberfort sticker onto the DEF CON community sticker wall!
