I have worked in IT for many years, however what is unique about working at Cyberfort is the variation between projects due to the company being a one stop shop for all cyber security requirements. From helping clients build secure suites in nuclear bunkers, building, managing and securing technology platforms tailored to client’s needs, improving internal infrastructure and our products and services offering and providing penetration testing and compliance services. Each project can be so different, yet all with the same aim of providing our clients with the peace-of mind about the security of their data and compliance of their business.

Day to day operations

No two days are the same for me. My time is often spent obtaining updates and setting up next steps on in-flight projects. Part of this involves managing risks and issues to ensure the projects remain on track for delivery, whilst keeping clients and any identified stakeholders updated on any progress. For new projects, I ensure that the foundations are in place at the outset by identifying stakeholders, agreeing the communication plan and producing artefacts such as a project initiation document and project plans which are agreed with all stakeholders. Also, as I am part of the wider PMO team, I contribute to process improvements as we are constantly looking to improve ways of working to streamline delivery processes and improve the end-to-end experience for our clients.

How is Project Management different in Cybersecurity?

Due to the nature of the business and the focus always being on ‘security’, this is incorporated into all of our processes. Depending on the project and the level of security required, i.e. a PCI DSS project, we ensure that all relevant processes are followed.  This can mean that there are additional process steps to ensure that projects are delivered in line with relevant regulations and that security is the focus in every step.

Why Cyberfort?

I work next to and have access to a nuclear bunker which is very exciting in itself. Within our nuclear bunker facilities I am required to monitor equipment deliveries for my projects and check in on build progress and suite/room set up where necessary. I work with so many talented people. From our tech teams, with consultants in OpenSource, Microsoft and our Networks Engineers, to our service desk engineers, pen testers and compliance consultants, meaning that I learn so much with each project from all the knowledge that is around me. This has helped me to advance my career during my time at Cyberfort originally joining as a Project Manager and progressing to a Senior Project Manager. I am very fortunate to work for a company that helps me achieve a healthy work/life balance. With 2 small children, my day is always pretty hectic! Following maternity leave, Cyberfort allowed me to reduce my hours to fit around childcare and have been supportive when I have had any issues with the children by offering a flexible approach to my work.
